X-Ray Q&A

What is an X-ray?

An X-ray is a diagnostic test that uses electromagnetic waves to create a black and white image of the internal structures of your body.

The technology uses radiation that absorbs into your tissues at different levels, making your bones appear white and your soft tissues appear gray. The radiation delivered into your body during an X-ray is relatively small and won’t cause any side effects after your test.

Why do I need an X-ray?

You may need an X-ray to diagnose the root cause of unexplained pain, swelling, or other symptoms. You might also require an X-ray following any type of accident to detect underlying injuries.

Lani City Medical offers on-site X-ray testing to diagnose conditions like:

  • Arthritis
  • Fractures
  • Infections
  • Digestive problems

The team at Lani City Medical also provides in-office chest X-rays to diagnose the root cause of unexplained chest pain, such as chest infections and pneumonia.

What happens during an X-ray?

At Lani City Medical, the latest diagnostic X-ray equipment is on-site to ensure you receive fast, accurate test results during your visit.

There’s nothing you need to do to prepare for an X-ray. The team at Lani City Medical encourages you to wear loose, comfortable clothing or you may need to wear a gown. The team will provide you with a vest to protect areas of your body not undergoing X-ray testing.

Depending on the nature of your condition, the team helps put you in the right position for the X-ray. You may need to change positions throughout your visit to get images of the injured or painful areas of your body.

During the X-rays, it’s normal for the technician to go out of the room while the technology is in use due to the radiation.

How long does it take to get X-ray results?

Soon after your X-rays are complete, the Lani City Medical radiologist reviews your results to determine your diagnosis. You can expect to receive your results during your evaluation and your provider uses the X-ray information to create a treatment plan.

In some cases, you may need additional diagnostic testing following an X-ray to further evaluate your condition or reach a diagnosis.

If you have unexplained pain or suspect you have a fracture, save your spot in line or simply walk in for a quick evaluation at Lani City Medical.
